Dante Roets

Tell us about your journey up to now? Well, it all started in 2014 when one of my best friends- Kerry-Lee Cousins- entered SA Swimsuit… Through signing up to vote for her etc throughout the process, I was notified about the SA Lingerie competition later in 2014, and decided to give it a go! It went very well, and at the end of 2014 I signed with D&A, so when World Swimsuit South Africa came up, we decided it would be a good idea for me to give it a go! It’s been a fun experience, and I am looking forward to what the future holds as a result of it!

Who is the first person you called when you found out that you’re a finalist? Kerry-Lee, she has been incredibly supportive since I started out and we are dying for the chance to do something like this together!

What is your Signature physical feature? Wow, haha this is quite a question… I get a lot of compliments on my legs as I was a dancer through school which has left them quite naturally toned, but if I had to choose my favourite, it would probably be my eyes.

Give us your Words to live by: Live to Love and Love to Live

You’re in great shape; tell us a bit about your exercise regime: I love Bikram yoga although I sometimes struggle to get to enough classes, and I try fit in as much cardio as possible at the gym at least three times a week as I am not a huge fan of weight training.

What are Beauty essentials for you? I would struggle without my Body Shop Coconut Spray Lotion or my C.O. Bigelow Rosewater Salve

What is your skincare secret? I love to use facial defoliators, and also love going for a full body exfoliation a few times a year, really helps to clear your skin and keep it healthy.

If you had to pick one feature to make-up… Eyes or lips: Eyes

Air-dry or blowout: Air dry… My hair is naturally dead straight, so sometimes to give it a bit of life I rough dry it and let it dry in a bun… natural waves… (I am also super impatient with my hair perhaps because it’s never been difficult to maintain, so the idea of spending too much time on it puts me off!)

What is the best advice you ever got from your mom: Honestly, I wouldn’t know where to start. My mom is always there, and always has been… even if not only to offer me words of advice but just to listen and empathise… She really keeps me sane when I lose faith in the goings on around me! She always knows when I should rise above it, and when I should stand my ground.

Best advice from the pros: Glue your tongue to the roof of your mouth sometimes when taking photo’s, it gives the illusion of a longer and more graceful neckline.

What do you consider a necessary splurge? SHOES!!! No question, you can have the perfect outfit but with the wrong shoes, its pointless… one of my best friends always says I was born in heels and I intend to go out that way.

Drugstore favourite: I think its quite important to have Allergex on me at all times, I have quite severe allergies at times and it can so easily ruin a day if you aren’t prepared!

Fragrance of choice: I have two- Victor and Rolf Flowerbomb, and Dior Hypnotic Poison (more for the evenings)... if I had to choose, it would probably be the Dior.

Who is your icon? Tough question… On a feminine level I would probably say Angelina Jolie, aside from her unquestionable beauty, she is an outstanding humanitarian, she appears to be a wonderful mother and her strength in putting her health (as well as the well-being of her family) before the stigma of mastectomies was very impressive to me. Though, if I had to be honest about who first came to mind- it would be Jose Mourinho… I am a huge Chelsea FC fan, having lived in Chelsea for two years as a child, and the man’s record speaks for itself- he is incredible and a really great entertainer at the very least.

Where has been your favourite location to shoot? To be honest, I haven’t shot in many exotic locations so far but I have to say, we shot at Sandy Bay a few months ago and it was well worth the laugh just to see the goings on around us really…

What is your favourite city to visit? This is tough because I love a few for different reasons but if I had to choose only one, it would be London… I have a lot of family and friends there, the shopping is amazing and I am quite a fan of winter which happens to be almost 9 months a year there.

Name one thing on your bucket list… To watch Chelsea win a Champions League final at the stadium, perhaps that is because I can only control the “being there”… the winning is up to them so I think if I happened to be there when they do, it would really be a moment to remember.

Who is your favourite photographer to work with? I don’t have one, so far I have had great experiences with almost all the photographers I have shot with and they almost all have their own positive attributes. Perhaps I will find a favourite in the future!

Do you like to cook? What is your favourite dish? I love food and I love to cook, but it is always better to cook for someone who appreciates the food smile I make a mean lamb stew with risotto, it runs in the family…

A bit of a naughty question… Do you have a beau? No... I am tempted to say I am really not looking as I need a little “me” time after some serious relationships in the past few years, but it seems every time I say that, someone new walks into my life - so perhaps I should just reserve comment.

If not… What does a guy need to do to win your heart? I need a man who is down to earth, open, honest, who I feel I can talk to easily about everything (this is rare!) and who can make me laugh… Romance is important to me, as is attraction so I guess its a bit of a package deal.
